By leaving a gift after your lifetime, you can ensure that your friends and neighbors who are blind or vision impaired will continue to receive the services they need to remain independent long after you are gone.
The Three Easiest Ways to Leave Your Legacy
A Gift in Your Will
Many donors find that leaving a gift in their will is an easy and convenient way to ensure their favorite organization will continue to benefit from their generosity. Wills may be written to include a specific amount of money, a percentage of your estate, or a particular asset, such as stocks or real estate.
Retirement Plans and IRAs
Retirement plans and IRAs are a great option when considering what assets to leave to charity and which to leave to loved ones. You can designate VisionCorps as the beneficiary for the entire policy or a percentage.
Life Insurance Policies
You can designate VisionCorps as a beneficiary for the entire policy, or a percentage.
Beneficiary designations can be changed at any time to meet your changing needs. Take time to review your beneficiaries to ensure they are up to date. Any amount will help VisionCorps fulfill our mission and will create a lasting legacy in your name.
By choosing to leave a gift to VisionCorps after your lifetime, you become one of our 1926 Society members! Named for the year in which VisionCorps was founded, you can join in a legacy that was started nearly 100 years ago to help our veterans blinded in WWII as we continue to empower individuals of all ages to attain independence.

Strategic Giving to VisionCorps
Strategic gifts offer considerable tax benefits and even income for your lifetime.
Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
If you are 72 or older, rather than simply taking your IRA Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) and paying taxes on it, you can direct your IRA administrator to distribute funds from your RMD to VisionCorps, tax-free. You can direct up to $100,000 annually. You will pay no income tax on the amount transferred. Because you are not claiming the transferred amount as income, you cannot claim the gift as a tax deduction.
Charitable Gift Annuity
A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) allows you to arrange a generous gift to VisionCorps while providing yourself a new income source for the rest of your life. Here’s how it works:
- You make a gift to VisionCorps – cash, appreciated stocks, or other assets can be discussed.
- We set up a contract with you that combines immediate annuity payments with a deferred charitable gift.
- You receive a stream of fixed income, regardless of market conditions, based on the American Council on Gift Annuities’ current gift annuity rates.
- You receive an immediate tax deduction on the charitable portion of your gift.
- We handle the administrative details. You receive annuity payments during your lifetime, and after your lifetime, VisionCorps receives the remaining balance. A legacy is left in your name, and your support will continue to help your friends and neighbors living with vision loss.
Gifts of Stock
Gifts of appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, and most mutual funds) also provide tax advantages. Your gift of stock is reinvested in your community, and it qualifies for an immediate tax deduction based on the full fair market value. To direct a gift of stock to VisionCorps, you or your investment advisor may contact Angela Lauer, Senior Philanthropy Officer, by dialing 717-393-5894 or emailing alauer@visioncorps.net.

Scale down a building, build up support!
Eye Drop is an exhilarating event in which participants commit to a fundraising minimum in exchange for an incredible opportunity to rappel down the Holiday Inn overlooking downtown Lancaster, at the corner of Queen and Chestnut Streets.
We invite you to participate in Eye Drop to raise funds to provide meaningful support to your friends and neighbors who are blind or experiencing vision loss.
To participate as a rappeller, support an individual rappeller or team, or be a sponsor, contact Angela Lauer at 717-925-7101 or alauer@visioncorps.net.

VisionCorps accepts both product donations to offset operational expenses, as well as gently used low vision devices in working condition.
Our Amazon Wishlist is updated based on the current needs of the agency. Educational materials for Youth Services programming, low vision devices for clients, and general office products are items you will find on this list. By purchasing these products – and having them ship directly to VisionCorps – you are providing direct support to our programs. You can also designate VisionCorps as your charity of choice through Amazon Smile and a percentage of your (qualified) purchase will be donated to VisionCorps from Amazon!
If you have low vision devices such as CCTVs, magnifiers, or sun shields, our Rehabilitation and Education Department may be able to accept them! Please contact that department by dialing 877-876-6550 to see if we can accept your gently used items to benefit our current clients.
