Support Groups

Full Schedule
  • VisionCorps rehabilitation staff or a guest presents a topic and then opens up the meeting for group discussion. Clients are asked to suggest topics of interest.

If you live in a retirement community where VisionCorps hosts a support group, please reach out to your personal contact at VisionCorps to learn its status based on restrictions from the pandemic, or call 717-205-4141.

  • VisionCorps rehabilitation staff leads informal discussion with client groups in their home counties.

  • Listen to a book being read and then discuss with fellow clients!

Miranda Golden leads this weekly group. Clients listen to a chapter or a selection in a book and then discuss it. The books are chosen by the group and have a connection to people who are living with vision loss or blindness. A recently read book was Thunder Dog, the true story of a man who is blind and, Roselle, his guide dog, who was a hero during the September 11 World Trade Center attack, leading her owner and others to safety.

  • Dog Guide users and potential dog guide users discuss topics related to dog guides.

This evening group is for individuals who are current dog guide users and those who are considering becoming dog guide users. Led by Jennifer Eaton and Katarina Eller, the group spends the first half-hour listening to a topic and discussing it for the rest of the time. A veterinarian was a recent guest who discussed general nutrition updates for dogs.

  • Discuss ways to maintain your independence through mobility services.

Clients who currently receive mobility services or may be interested in mobility services in the future participate in this group that meets twice a month. Led by Katarina Eller and Jennifer Eaton, the topics are open-ended and include discussion about using your white cane, buses, trains, and airplanes.

  • A women’s group to discuss topics of interest unique to women.

This monthly group gives women the opportunity to discuss topics of interest, including things like self-defense, applying make-up, and fun topics suggested by group members. The group is led by Taylor Newswanger and Stacie Doan, with lots of laughs and good times!

  • A support group for clients who are Spanish speaking.

All clients who are Spanish speakers are invited to participate in this group discussion, led by Donna Garcia and Katarina Eller, with help from client volunteers who are bilingual. The group meets from 6:30-7:30 p.m. to accommodate those who work during the day. Our rehabilitation staff or a guest presents a topic and then opens it up for group discussion. Clients are asked to suggest topics of interest.

  • A group for parents of youth with low vision and blindness.

This monthly support group is for the parents/guardians of youth of all ages – birth thru high school – with vision loss.
