The STEP program is designed for a high school student who is blind or vision impaired looking to increase their knowledge base and employment skill sets to be able to lead an independent life after graduation. The employee is primarily responsible for learning/completing a variety of responsibilities on the production lines within the Enterprise Group. The student may also participate in learning activities based on the expanded core curriculum. This all will be done while acting in accordance with the company values, vision and mission.
Essential Job Functions:
- Produces within the acceptable range and time frame
- Keep work area clean & neat
- Reports any issues to supervisor
- Follows all written P3’s and ISO processes
- Reports all quality related issues immediately as they happen
- Starts and ends work at the schedule time.
- Demonstrates ability to cooperate, work and communicate with coworkers, other employees, supervisors and visitors.
- Acts in a professional manner.
- Follows the safety requirements for lifting, pushing, pulling and safe operation of motorized equipment and/or vehicles.
- Follows accident reporting procedures.
- Understands and follows safe travel requirements
- Participate in Department meetings
- Participate in Company events
- Any other duties or special projects assigned by the Production Supervisor or Plant Manager
In addition to the functions listed above, the employee will participate in an initial interview and overall dynamic assessment of job readiness and life skills from the Rehab Department. Based on the assessment, the student may participate in specific lessons geared towards individual needs such as:
- Using various forms of public transportation (Bus, Uber)
- Planning and preparing meals
- Shopping for groceries or personal needs
- Doing laundry
- Resume writing
- Interview skills
- Researching career interests and what type of training maybe required.
- Job shadowing
- Understanding of basic personal finances
- Access technology
- Additional skills based upon assessment and interests
Education and Work Experience:
- Must be able to get working papers if required for age
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Physical Demands
- Ability to verbally communicate with others
- Light to moderate physical effort required
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
